Business as usual

The gallery is now up and running. We've just wrapped up our first exhibition and launched the second one: Gatans galleri ("Gallery of the Streets"), featuring a selection of colorized manhole covers from across Japan. Check our opening hours below to see when to stop by.

Gatans galleri ("Gallery of the Streets") – Japanese Manhole Covers

Looks like we’ve gone with a Japan theme again. What can I say – I like Japan. In this exhibition, we explore a selection of the more than 6,000 manhole covers from across the country that feature unique designs. Cast-iron artworks. Some are even painted to highlight the motif and brighten up the public space.

Skärmtid has teamed up with a group of experts who helped us photograph and document the covers. Along the way, we’ve also discovered the culture that has grown around them – where our friends not only map and document designs, but also host award ceremonies. Yes, manhole covers have their own little world, and at Skärmtid, you can get a glimpse of it.

We’ve also set up a manhole cover memory game on the touchscreen by the exit.

Welcome!
